Accident and Incident

We can’t help but seek meaning, and will find it in even the most accidental situations. Painting in abstraction reminds me of this every day. I look at my easel, covered in the patina of outlines and test drips, and find these accidental or incidental marks to be more beautiful than the intended mark, so frank and resolute. And so the easel’s ephemeral space has entered the painting’s space, mirroring its freshness and ungoverned beauty.
