“La Friche” at La Générale

La friche, translated as “wildland”, is what we called the forbidden section of the 5-storey abandoned Dept. of Education building where the group of artists called La Générale took up residence in February 2005. In the spring of 2006, la friche was renovated to be structurally stable, and the many glassed-in rooms and open spaces are being used for collaborations, performances, and short-term residencies for painters, dancers, photographers, and filmmakers. For my installation for the opening of la friche, I chose to cover only half the glassed walls, leaving the work to be viewed from multiple vantage points and incorporate the flow of people through the space.
Includes works (left to right) “Spray” (2005), “Kabuangoyi” (2006), and “Interval” (2005)
