The Western Plain

Lately, I have been inspired by the vast space and dry palette of West Texas. I try to capture a sense of that space through watery inks and acrylics. The paintings have the effect of having been found instead of painted, like a photograph. At the same time, what appears to be landscape is also just the haphazard bleeding of the ink. The work becomes a meditation, listening and watching the fluctuations of the mind.

This series began in September, 2009, while in residence at the Byrdcliffe Artist’s Colony in Woodstock, New York. All works are India ink and acrylic on paper.
